Mobile IT Club
Background

The Mobile Information Technology Club Project is developed to establish mobile technology units to expose communities at large to computer literacy. The project targets the communities of sub-urban and rural areas that are currently unprivileged and unequipped with the appropriate information and communication technology infrastructure.
The project depends on the use of buses and caravans fully-equipped with functioning media labs to provide technology-related services through stopping at various communities for a period of nearly two weeks across Egypt.
Objectives
- Introducing ICT to
communities in remote under-serviced areas.
- Overcoming the problem
of computer scarcity in remote areas.
- Increasing the
awareness of the different usage of ICTs and the
Internet.
Achievements
- 4 Mobile IT units (
visited most of the Egyptian governorates ).
- More than 126,000
visited the units since its deployment in April
2005.
- Cooperation with FAO (
Radicon ) and other developmental projects.
Current Situation
- The Mobile IT Club
project has delivered two caravans and one bus
with their operating team to the Ministry of
Communications & Information Technology.
- The project is now in
the process of building another tow buses for
National Counsel for Childhood and Motherhood.
- Partnership with
Ministry of Health and Population for
constructing and operating women healthcare
mobile units for the early detection of some
diseases.

Egypt Spearheads Awareness Efforts on Internet Safety Issues In an effort to spread the awareness and knowledge on cyberspace safety and trigger a national and regional dialogue on the culture of internet safety, Egypt's First Lady, and the President and Founder of the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement (SMWIPM), Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak will be inaugurating a conference on internet safety for youth and children titled "Young People in the Internet and Mobile Age: Safe and Empowered!".

Success Stories
Reaching the far, the Mobile IT Unit in El Max El Max is an area located in the west of Alexandria. Most of its inhabitants are fishermen. It lies between El Wardian – an industrial area which is considered one of the most polluted in Alexandria and El Agami. However, El Max has its own character.
Most of the houses were built on the two banks of a canal that goes through a hill, surrounded by houses in the form of upside down pyramids according to the steepness of the hill. This isolated area among crises of introversion, pollution, low level of education and sanitation. However, although being rather less developed, the area shows a mixture of nature and simplicity that makes it a charming place.
