Meeting of the High Tripartite Commission for projects of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the United Nations Development Program and Ministry of Foreign Affairs

 

Cairo, May 2, 2018.

The annual meeting of the joint High tripartite commission for projects of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt, that works within the framework of partnership and cooperative agreements in the field of development, was held on the second Wednesday of May, in collaboration with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the UNDP in Egypt, headed by Ms. Randa Abu Al-Hassan, the UNDP country director and Mr. Ambassador. Hany Selim, representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, In addition to a number of relevant project managers and administrators, including the comprehensive community development project by using information technology and communications, Egypt ICT Trust Fund, chaired by Ms. Hoda Dahroug, Head of the Central Department for Community Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). She is also the Regional Director at Egypt ICT Trust Fund (MCIT - UNDP), as well as, enhancing access to knowledge project for the development, headed by, Mr. Samer Saeed, the Head of Central Department of Financial and Administrative Affairs and Needs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, who reviewed a new project titled " optimizing Egypt's resources and capabilities through information and communication technologies", as he discussed in his speech the plan of action of the international funding programs which belong to the Ministry and which are implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the next five years.

Also included were among the audience, the representatives of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), Telecommunications National Regulatory Authority project and the Egyptian Post Authority, to review the second step of the Egyptian Post modernization Support Project, in addition to the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and the National Institute of Communications (NTI), to present their project activities.

The meeting was attended by a number of the managers and members of the staff of the Fund. Engineer. Hoda, addressed a review of the major achievements which had been implemented by the Fund during the last year 2017, the review as well addressed the work vision of the Fund projects that include a number of development axes which serve the goals of Egypt's vision of 2030 for the sustainable development. The most prominent axes were: women's empowerment, achieving gender equality, empowering youth to take action, to reach out remote, boundary and marginalized areas, support the enrichment of knowledge community, remote medical diagnosis and empowerment of people with disabilities.

The presentation given by the Engineer. Rehab Yehia, Deputy Regional Director of Egypt ICT Trust Fund, was about the general framework of work of the Fund projects during the current and future periods, in particular the proposed plans for remote diagnosis projects in remote areas and as expected the points that may serve will be expanded to provide health care for a larger population in these remote areas.

The presentation also addressed the implementation of the second phase of "jobs and skills for people with disabilities using information and communication technologies" project, which is implemented in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), taking concrete steps as well in implementing the integrated technological development project in Aswan, in addition to the development of community knowledge networks "kenana online", and also the pipeline project in cooperation with National Council for Women for empowering women using information technology and communication.

By the end of the meeting a discussion was opened between the audience, the representatives of the projects and Randa Abu Al-Hassan, the UNDP country director, who commented on the constant cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology through the past years and she also suggested making an assessment for the activities and the projects of the United Nations Development Program in Egypt with the Ministry( MCIT) and how to benefit from the developmental experiences which had been done on the same scale in order to generalize these benefits and exchange experiences with other country offices in Arab Countries.

Mr. Ambassador. Hany Selim, the representative of Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised as well the prominent role of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its outstanding performance in implementing the projects that support the development aspects in Egypt and suggested to get benefits from this experience of the ministry and encouraged the other governmental bodies to adopt such developmental activities pointing out that projects should continue to be carried out in cooperation with the ministry (MCIT) to serve the development process in Egypt.
