Developing Remote Areas
Another of goal of The Trust Fund is to increase access to ICT technologies to rural and remote communities.
Egypt had a land area of more than 1 million km2 and many communities based in remote locations have no means to access technology such as computers or the internet coverage. The ICT Trust Fund is very active in this area, actively supporting two types of solutions: telecentres and mobile ICT units.
The ICT technology has the potential to benefit whole communities and ICT Trust Fund's projects have demonstrated innovative applications of new technologies. A tried and tested methodology, first applied to Siwa Oasis in 2013, helped 17 rural communities and 2 remote areas in 2015.
The Fund designs solutions for each community individually, assessing how new technologies can improve citizens' quality of life.
